Ottorino Respighi (1879 - 1936)
.
He was an Italian composer, musicologist - Rome always make me think about Fontane di Roma ("Fountains of Rome")his trilogy (Fontane di Roma, Pines di Roma, and Feste Romane)he actually studied some time for Nikolai Rimsky - Kosakov as well - Anyways, if you have never listen to this orchestral piece...it would be well worth the time....

you will be longing to find.......
.some hidden little restaurant to visit...I do recommend Ristorante la Campana located at Vicolo Della Campana 18 - shy of the Tiber River - Rome’s oldest restaurant - a definitely classic Roman restaurant, as I remember them from my childhoods visits to Italy - white tablecloths, casual formality, black-suited waiters with a (nowadays partially) handwritten menu which changes daily - Lovely fresh fish dishes, Porcini mushrooms, fried artichokes and the best Tiramasu in Rome.

The City of Roma a "little" to crowded for me .....I could be hiding in Palazzo Rondanini but - No - not staying in Italy this time ....on my way again.....Destination - Warsaw, Poland....
Gorgeous post, 1) because your Rome pix are splendid, and 2) because you're familiar with Respighi. His portraits of Rome are an excellent way to become familiar with the city; love that late Romantic style. About half a year ago I picked up a real rarity: Respighi's opera, "Fiamma", set in Byzance. More beautiful late Romanticism; check it out if you're not already familiar with it.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Morocco...!
