He was the first photographer to be elected to the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris. He is decorated as Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, Commandeur des Arts et Lettres, et Académicien des Beaux Arts.

Lucien Clergue meets Picasso in Arles (France) in 1953 - their friendship lasted a lifetime.  Together at the  bullfights in France they experienced  the Art of Bullfighting.
