LBV: So, do you equate memories with photographs, being a photographer, or are they two separate although at times overlapping, categories. What then does it mean to manipulate the images as you do?
Tavarua: No - I do not necessarily equate memories with photographs but surely there is an overlap. The meaning of the manipulation of the ordinary photo is the creation and reflection of my mind in the composition of something more...interesting... in my way of looking at it...a reflection... to create new life to the interpretation of the experience....using simple elements ...in their relation to each other...
Each moment has a meaning and purpose of significant value in life which can expand into your own true way of life philosophy....and to meet life's challenges with unconventional contradictory strategies...
"It is also about collecting - a canvas bag full of conch shells from a beach in the Caribbean, coral, crab claws, dried pods, bones, porcupine quills, tusks from hogs and hippos from old Africa, stag horns from the Alps, fabrics, old crocodile cases, hunting bottles and of course photos, scraps, a feather, leaves and whatever finds its way into my leather bound journals.....and in the end the camera freezes the moment of the "creation" and sends the message - a reflection - to further ideas and inspirational thoughts...about...life...maybe... how to absorb it...in my travels........"
